Two nights west of Hong Kong, after we sailed between Hainan island and the Chinese Mainland, we reached the UNESCO world heritage site of Ha Long Bay in northern Vietnam. I am happy to report that this third leg of my trip was covered aboard the ultra luxe Silver Muse – a Silversea vessel.

The purpose for our small group of global travel trade representatives presence aboard is in an advisory board capacity for a few nights. While many board members sail all the way to Saigon or even Bangkok for 7 to 10 nights, my journey consists of 4-nights (Hong Kong to Da Nang) due to further commitments in Europe starting Monday of next week.

Having visited this spectacular natural wonder back in 2018 (read my Cambodia & Vietnam blogs,) my visit today is not an overnight, rather it is aboard a day junket boat called the Bai Tho 69 for a few hours.

No matter by which means you visit this area, it is a spectacular experience. Little boats navigate the thousands of limestone islands in this marine sanctuary that were created by millennia of rain-induced erosion washing away at the Asian plateau. Locals call it the “descending dragon” as these islands look like a mythical dragon was lying in the sea.
