My four nights aboard Silver Muse are ending today in the bustling port town of Da Nang located on the central Vietnamese coast. This morning’s fond farewell from the amazing crew represents both, the start of my fourth leg of this journey and it starts the countdown clock to my return aboard Silversea as I have just been confirmed on Silver Cloud to Antarctica beginning November 20th. More on that later as we had to get ready to visit the Confucian town of Hoi An.

A 45-minute drive along a sandy stretch of the Da Nang coast, we arrived in Hoi An for a morning walk and short river cruise. As this is my 2nd time in this marvelous gem of a town, I skipped the tour and instead roamed the pedestrian streets on my own to take in the smells and sights on offer.

Weather was a factor today as it was a roasting 29 degrees Celsius with 100% humidity as we walked the streets and alleyways so our short boat ride to tge outskirts of town provided welcomed relief in the form of a breeze.

I’m nice safely docked, our group was escorted to a local chef’s home for an amazing lunch experience. Chef Duc has traveled the world ever since he was forced to flee his homeland in 1973. First, he came to the US as a “boat people” refugee and later, his adopted multicultural family took him to Mexico, Africa and eventually back to Vietnam. Proud owner of https://www.mangomangohoian.com chef Duc creates global fusion cuisine with home grown ingredients right from these fertile lands. It was a perfect end to our days in Vietnam.
