Around the World in 16 Days – 6th Leg

Once on German soil, I met up with fellow Direct Travel staff in celebration of our Top Sellers for our annual “Going the Extra Mile” rewards trip. This years’ program started in Munich with a fabulous overnight at tge Rocco Forte The Charles hotel in located on a peaceful park in the heart of the Bavarian capital.

Once all the transfers were completed and our group of 45 was in one place, our partner Abercrombie & Kent provided a glorious day of discovery and transport to get us via tge Abbey of Weltenberg to our embarkation port in Nuremberg. It was glorious for several reasons, weather and German fall colors for one, great company and commentary that brought Bavarian Beer culture to life and, most importantly, 🍺!

By 5pm on Halloween, everyone was settled in aboard AMA Certo, our 152 guest river ship, so that our Danube/Main canal voyage toward Amsterdam could sail off. 7 fun-filled nights of locks, cruising, fine food and activities were to follow.

Among the highlights of this itinerary were many UNESCO world heritage sites, a pretzel baking lesson from Germany’s oldest continuously operated pretzel bakery in Wertheim where the 14th generation of bakers upholds the tradition that began back in 1554.

A stop in Ruedesheim on Saturday morning was rained out which gave us time to enjoy the ship before the scenic afternoon Rhine Valley cruising past hundreds of castles took us to Koblenz and on to Cologne. A final overnight of cruising then got our ship to Amsterdam where we disembarked. All that was left for me then to complete the “round the world” flight was a one-way Delta flight to Salt Lake City and home to Palm Springs. It was an uneventful flight aboard a new Airbus 330 NEO.
