After a day at sea, our Silver Cloud expedition ship arrived at New Island in the western Falklands for a first zodiac outing. Courtesy of my companion Jerry’s video skills, enjoy the Rockhopper Penguin we saw from a few feet away as we explored the cliffside.

This wilderness area is frequented by three different species of birds that cohabitate nicely. The gigantic black-browed Albatross with it’s 7 foot wingspan is tge large anchor as they return to the same mud nest every nesting season. Mingled between are the small rock and twig nests of the rockhopper penguins. Any remaining cliffside space is filled in with cormorants whom build nests every season from grass and mud.

Our afternoon landing was in the West Falklands at another albatross and rockhopper penguin colony which was even more up-close. The below video of albatross navigating the strong winds and thousands of nests to find theirs is the best way to bring it to life. More adventures await tomorrow in Port Stanley. Stay tuned…
