Early June is an ideal timeframe to visit the 49th State as the weather generally improves and the mosquitoes have not yet hatched. I decided to embark on a week’s getaway aboard the Regent Seven Seas Explorer on a Southbound cruise from Seward to Vancouver.

Out of an abundance of caution, arriving a day early for any scheduled trip is “good advice” even for travel professionals. This, we landed in Anchorage early afternoon the day prior to embarking. we spent the afternoon exploring the downtown area and discovered a fabulous local brewery with great food and brews.

Rather early, at 6:45am, our Coastal Express train departed for Seward. This stretch of Alaskan railroad is globally recognized for its scenery and track layout. On our 3.5 hour journey, we saw countless bald eagles, moose and spectacular Alaskan wilderness while sitting in comfy chairs as we traveled from Anchorage in southwestern direction toward the Kenai peninsula. .

Once in Seward, our illustrious quartet walked the short hop over to the pier and boarded our home away from home for the week – Regent Seven Seas Explorer.

Trains was one of the themes for this trip as we rode not only the Alaska Railroad, but also the historic Whitehorse Yukon Rail Road in Skagway. Local shuttles, kayaks, and other marine contraptions were also used in the experience of this destination.

Weather as a theme was the other predominant factor to contend with in Alaska, no matter the season. With only 120 non-rain days in Seward and Sitka, it is quite normal to get liquid sunshine ☀️ somewhere along a journey to the last frontier. We definitely did get wet at times but the overall trip was good.

Wildlife is the final aspect of any Alaska cruise and it didn’t disappoint. Stay tuned for more on this topic in my next update.
