Icelandic Adventure – Parliamentary plane and waterfall

Our group at the full country model of Iceland

A good night’ sleep later, we hit the road, picked up Kent, and went exploring. Our first stop was at the fissures area of Thingvellier National Park where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia separate by an inch annually. This separation created a deflated plane that gradually drifts further apart, creating rivers with crystal clear waters.

It is one of only two land-based rift valleys that humanity can explore on foot. What an amazing experience it was to walk between continents today.

We spent plenty of time to explore the area before heading on to the geyser area where good old Strokkur puts on a show every 7 to 8 minutes.

Our final sightseeing stop of the day was Gullfoss which was originally planned to be covered up by a dam. Thanks to local activism of a famous local woman, the falls were spared and now delight visitors for eternity (or till an earthquake reshapes the plateau).

Solidly sprinkled upon by the falls’ spray, we all got in the mood for some hot springs action. Fortunately, the secret lagoon was right on our route to the eco lodge for the night. No trip to Iceland is complete without a hot springs experience.
