Icelandic Adventure – Glacier walk and more

Early morning departure from Gerdi

In terms of aurora borealis, our 2nd night did not produce success either. On the positive side, this meant everyone got a good night sleep. Fully rested and fed with breakfast, we returned to Jokursklalon lagoon for an amphibious vehicle ride past stunning ice bergs, harbor seals, and vistas of the glacier basin in the distance.

Then we returned briefly to Hotel Gerdi to swap cars and ride ATV’s with humongous tires over a gravel path to the edge of the glacier.

Our amazing exploration over the Jokursklalon glacier at mid day sun was exhilarating for all. A hearty soup lunch later, we hit the road east around tge ragged Icelandic coastline with vistas of endless waterfalls, one more beautiful than the next. Eventually we climbed over the 939 road mountain pass, past the tiered Folaldafoss falls and on to the capital of the east called Egilstadir.

Our exciting, sun-filled day ended with tasty oven fresh pizza at the local brew pub. A fantastic day made possible by our expert local guide and masterful driver Kristjan. Thank you for navigating us so safely and expertly along this fantastic journey.
