Our exploration of eastern Iceland continued with a wintery drive across vast forested areas, lakes and scenic waterfalls. It was a casual day as we stayed overnight in the same place.
Our waterfall stop at Hengifoss tested the resolve of our group with a steep circular hike. Some (myself included) made it barely up the first section, while the famous five completed the entire loop. Congrats!
On the way, we came across a small little settlement where ruins of a long ago monastery have been unearthed recently. The owners of the place prepared a lovely lunch buffet of local pelicans for us. Yummy.
The afternoon got rounded out at the natural hot springs baths at Vok. Most of tge group even did the polar plunges into the cold lake for maximum health benefits.
