A restful night in the super-comfy king bed in my tower building junior suite behind me, our discovery of this gem of a resort continued with a hosted VIP breakfast in the Sapphire Presidential Suite located at the quiet far end of the property, next to the yacht harbor waterway. This spacious suite accommodates up to 6 guests in an artful local and native materials focused design.
Calming in its natural wood tones, private plunge pool on the garden side, private pool and unobstructed sunset views from the terrace (see picture above) among its stand-out features, this suite is the perfect solution for special occasions and long weekend getaways. It is helpful to note that for added space (thinking of large families or weddings), connecting rooms can be added to the suite to truly fit any situation clients may have.
As our small group of illustrious advisors continued our walk, what impressed me throughout this property is the consistency of design decisions implemented. Each room category has its own color hue coordinated in every detail, from pillows and covers to sinks and bathroom amenities, guest usability is front and center. This is not a new hotel as the original complex opened in 1969, yet it feels fresh and new. All the rooms have been completely overhauled with plenty of electrical outlets in all the right places, and with traditional light switches, not a digital pad.
For those looking for active engagement, this property features a grass tennis court setup ideal for private tournaments with a group of friends for example. Those not into tennis or needing rejuvenation after the match, the locally staffed and operated Ikal SPA will be the space for you. I was privileged to experience a “cacao body wrap” treatment (sorry no pictures) which I can highly recommend. Relaxing, therapeutic from an aromatherapy perspective, and resulting in super smooth skin. It was a fantastic and enriching experience!
No visit here would be complete without mentioning the world’s 2nd largest coral reef which lies right outside the rooms of this property. Guests can literally walk out and safely snorkel the magnificent reef. For more advanced guests, PADI certification for scuba diving is available. For already certified divers, the intercontinental team will customize your stay based on needs and skills.
All in all, this is a hidden gem of a hotel that suits many facets of guests wishes. All united in impeccable personal service and attention to detail. I can’t wait to return!
