Colors of Provence – Papal city of Avignon

Palace of the popes from the deck of AMA Kristina

Our cruise returned to the Papal City of Avignon where, for a century during the Middle Ages, popes lived away from the Vatican as the Hundred Years’ War between France and England raged. Avignon is home to 50k citizens whom all welcomed us with open arms. There is a general sense of excitement #TravelisBack to see the first North American visitors in 15 months.

A “must stop” during any visit to Avignon

Our cruise director Uwe presented guests three choices today. A traditional city tour with Papal Palace; a bicycle tour along the Rhone; and a “tastes of Avignon” gourmet tour. No question, I chose #EnjoytheJourney and ate my way through Avignon.

For the afternoon, most guests went on the UNESCO world heritage site tour to the Pond du Gard. For my part, I stayed aboard to record more videos and host a Facebook -live-from-France to highlight this amazing destination which I personally recommend as it is not crowded at all these days so take the opportunity and travel to Europe this summer and fall.
