This current trip I am blogging about represents my fifth to the Dominican Republic over a 32 year time span. Sitting here after a stunning sunrise and reminiscing about my very first time here is a total trip down memory lane. In fact, it goes all the way back to my 20s to a time where I was a literal “stick” in shorts, traveling here from Switzerland with my gregarious mom. The occasion back then was to celebrate her 50th birthday (may she rest in peace) as only her son could – abroad.

Several other opportunities in the years since then (conferences, Fam, cruises, and vacation) get me to today’s trip and purpose. One thing I can share right away is how this island and Punta Cana specifically have evolved over that time.

From a sleepy beach town with 5 hotels in 93 to today’s sprawling 50+ resorts up and down the peninsula, the transformation is quite remarkable. Remembering my trip in 93, the Bavaro Beach area was the hub with its sheer endless sandy beach. It’s a different story today.

As the popularity for resort getaways grew, so did the infrastructure of the area and today’s stretch from play we Arena Gorda down to Cap Cana is a 30 mile stretch of resorts one next to the other. So for seclusion seekers, this new Dreams and Secrets Playa Esmeralda is the Resort and Spa to be at.

Nestled on a turtle breeding pristine beach, this new built complex offers vacationers all the modern amenities desired, a plethora of lodging options for every budget, and of course, the all-inclusive benefits guest seek. Stay tuned for a detailed review of this dual-resort in the coming days.
You’re looking great!
Have been thinking about you … let’s catch up sometime. I retired 2 weeks ago and am planning my travel schedule. I’ll be in PS for a week beginning March 4 and hope we can have dinner.
