Countdown to Eclipse – Ixtapa touchdown

Layover in Houston

The countdown has officially begun for the next Total solar Eclipse across North America. After years of planning, upheaval due to natural disasters, and many other unforeseen twists, I am headed to Ixtapa for the first leg of the exclusive chartered cruise program for Paul Maley’s Eclipse Tours.

The hotel crew at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico

Once I arrived in Ixtapa at our pre-cruise hotel, it was all about getting setups ready for 186 guests to arrive the following day.

Charter flight from Houston

Prompt as scheduled, our charter jet from Wheels up arrived at the Zihuatanejo airport, kicking off the pre-cruise portion. Fortunately, all guests and luggage arrived as planned. It was the closest flight from Los Angeles on Alaskan that had left two bags behind (more on that later).

Arrival transfers

Once everyone had cleared customs and immigration, we transferred everyone to the resort for a first reception and an introductory lecture by our host Dr. Paul Maley.

This exclusive program to view the Eclipse has been long in the works and we faced some formidable obstacles from a cancelled ship under contract to hurricane Otis destroying our hotel and arrival airport in Acapulco last fall. Alas, we persevered and the program is now officially under way. Stay tuned for progress reports over tge coming days.
