Countdown to Eclipse – Acapulco and cruise

Convoy of coaches from Ixtapa to Acapulco

Two sun- filled days at the Ixtapa Sunscape Dorado Pacifico completed, our group of 186 made its way in a convoy of motor coaches along the 240kilometer route. We passed hundreds of speed bumps (at least two per village), mango tree farms, coconut plantations, and we witnessed the destruction hurricane Otis has left in its wake. Everyone made it safely and boarded SH Diana for lunch.

Boarding the ship is the formal beginning of our Eclipse cruise to the Sea of Cortez. The vessel impresses with clean yet cozy Scandinavian flair, tons of useful storage in staterooms, and an amazing team of staff. Everyone felt at home in no time as the SH Diana made its way up the West Coast of Mexico. We reached the tip of Baja California and cruised up its eastern coast to Loretto.

Our first expedition landing took place on isla San Francisco where guests could snorkel and hike or swim. Tons of fun was had on the zodiac rides back and forth and the setting was absolutely fantastic.

A further overnight cruise got us to Loreto where the navigational team pulled off a great feat changing program at the last minute due to strong northerly winds and swells. Instead of cancelling the stop, we cruised to a protected bay and used the Marina at puerto Escondido to disembark and zodiac to the harbor. From there our excursions took guests by bus to various areas. I chose the city walk in Loreto, home to the very first Spanish mission in California built in 1697.
