As it so happened, after dark set in on Saturday night, SpaceX launched a rocket into space from California’s Vandenberg Airforce base and its path passed right above our charter ship off the coast in Baja. it was a spectacular bonus for us all!

Tge next morning greeted us with unexpectedly clear skies providing us a spectacular opportunity to witness this Total Solar Eclipse among the first people in the world. As you can see from the below map, we were not the only ship with the same idea, but our small group of 186 had a big space advantage. We had 5 decks of outdoor space while the 4500 guests on neighboring Discovery Princess had to squeeze on two decks filled with pools.

All the years of planning and development have now culminated with a spectacular event. Every guest aboard got to experience and share their emotions with the broader group. It was an extraordinary few minutes of totality surrounded by deeply focused discussions as the sun made her orbit behind the moon.

This highlight checked off, our expedition cruise continued back north to Isla San Jose for a zodiac exploration of mangroves and seal rock.
