Having spent 3 nights in San Miguel, I can wholeheartedly endorse its reputation as a “perfect weekend” getaway that offers relaxation for all the senses. Of course, there is always the option to relocate permanently as our friends Al and Jackie have done.
While my flight on United via Houston was uneventful and exactly what was was expected, my return non stop to Oakland on Mexican budget airline Volaris added some excitement for me as an aviation geek. From an equipment perspective, it is nothing unusual in that they fly Airbus 320 neo planes. Where this carrier differs from other North American offerings is in its service and cabin.
There is no First Class, only standard or extra legroom coach with pre-assigned seats at cost. The onboard service is comprehensive with lots of items for sale. The mostly male staff were formally dressed in uniforms and they delivered speedy and friendly service.
Reflecting on the overall experience of this weekend, I understand the appeal and charme of this place. Bohemian in nature, clean, and peaceful, this is an oasis rare to find these days. It makes perfect sense why so many US expatriates have chosen this high altitude paradise.
I love Volaris! When I lived in San Diego I always flew to Puerto Vallarta using Volaris from the Tijuana airport. With the Cross Border Express footbridge it’s just as easy as a domestic airport and saves a lot of money!!!
